DEADLINE: CCNow's Climate Newsroom
Extreme weather is becoming the new normal. Do you have the tools and story ideas to cover it?
Recent studies show that more people are worried about extreme weather affecting their lives. This underscores the need for climate coverage that reflects local priorities: jobs, economic stability, public health, and sustainable communities.
The Climate Newsroom, a free training program from Covering Climate Now, will help you give your audience the climate coverage they want. The three online sessions will deliver accurate information and fact-checked language.
You’ll learn how to:
- Report on extreme weather’s impact on local economies and households
- Cover seasonal allergy surges and the spread of diseases linked to climate shifts
- Explain the human toll of extreme weather events
- Learn whether an extreme weather event can be attributed to climate change
- Find fresh stories connected to climate for every beat
- Identify and debunk disinformation and greenwashing
This program is built for local journalists and meteorologists in the US working in print, digital, radio, TV, and social media. Early-career journalists, general assignment reporters, and editors are welcome.
Our fall cohort starts the week of October 20. We’ll be reviewing applications until Friday, October 17. Spots are limited.
