Workshops and Fellowships

This program, established by the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future (CLF), supports early-to-mid-career journalists reporting on issues at the intersection of public health and food systems. The year-long fellowship begins with an in-person program in Baltimore, Maryland, June 24-27.

The East-West Center's Jefferson Fellowships comprise a three-week reporting and study tour with the goal of leveraging news media to enhance public understanding of cultures, issues, and trends in the Indo-Pacific region. 2025 theme is The Future of Food Security: Lessons from Southeast Asia. The two-year "Opening Doors Initiative," a new initiative aimed at increasing diversity in public media newsrooms, will provide skills training, mentorship and paid internships for ten BIPOC journalism students, with a focus on science, health and economics reporting. Apply by Mar 23, 2025.

This spring, local news outlets across the US will become part of a national visual journalism initiative led by CatchLight and Report for America to provide inclusive, accurate and locally contextualized information to the public through accessible, high-quality visual journalism. The Global Investigative Journalism Network invites applications from reporters worldwide for this free, part-time course starting April 14, 2025. Learn how to investigate the digital environment in order to understand and expose attacks and manipulation. Deadline: Feb 1.

Indian journalists and non-fiction writers can apply for this paid fellowship to develop their longform manuscripts. Attend a writing masterclass with Jerry Pinto, May 7-11, 2025, and a 21-day writing residency in the Himalayas in July. Financial support: INR50,000 plus INR20,000 travel fund. Apply by Feb 10.

Earth Journalism Network is hosting a three-day virtual media workshop (in two time zones) during the week of March 3, 2025 for journalists in coastal countries to learn about the 30x30 marine conservation target and initiatives being implemented to reach it. Apply by Jan 16.

From March 2-8, 2025, the Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources will conduct a training program in San Diego and locations across southern California for ~15 professional journalists to advance their reporting on a range of wildfire-resilience topics. Apply by Jan 31.

Join Climate Resilience for All for a three-day in-person training course in Accra, Ghana on February 10-12, 2025, designed to improve your reporting on the impacts of extreme heat, giving you new sources, story angles and ideas on how to cover the mounting impacts of this climate threat. FRONTIERS, an initiative funded by the European Research Council, offers immersive residencies of 3-5 months at European research institutions. Open to science journalists worldwide, residing in or outside Europe. Round 3 is exclusively aimed at early-career journalists. Apply by May 6, 2025.
