If you're a journalist or researcher interested in exploring the intersection of technology and democracy, this might be for you. Since 2023, the fellowship program has supported 25 fellows from 11 countries, who have written on the governance of artificial intelligence, tech regulation, digital rights, and the entanglement of state and corporate power. 

The Wilson Center is taking applications from scholars, practitioners, journalists and public intellectuals to join its 12-month, remote research fellowship program. 

Designed for authors who express their passion for the natural world and address vital environmental issues through their work, this fellowship supports poets, fiction writers, playwrights, screenwriters, essayists, memoirists, and columnists alike.

How can journalists cover this industry accurately and thoroughly as it gains momentum? Speakers will shed light on the murky world of deep sea mining, drawing from their experience in science communication, deep sea ecology, ocean policy, the human-ocean relationship and more.

Solar geoengineering is receiving growing attention, bringing a complex and still-evolving field into wider public conversation. Journalists face a difficult reporting challenge: how to cover a field marked by scientific uncertainty, potentially far-reaching risks, uneven governance and sharply different views about whether and how research should proceed. On September 1, the Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering (DSG), together with Solutions Journalism Network-trained journalist Yessenia Funes, will host a free, interactive webinar designed to help journalists navigate this challenge with more context.
 

The New York Times is now accepting applications for editing residents. The deadline to apply is Sept. 8. 

Applications are open for the 2027-28 Berlin Prize, which funds semester-long fellowships in the humanities, social sciences, law, journalism and public policy. Priority areas include democracy, security, technology and AI, energy and climate, and global order, with dedicated tracks for Jewish studies, German studies and public health/biotech. Application deadline: Sept 25, 2026, 12pm ET
